Miami Swimwear Brand Elspiri Debuts With Summer Collection

Elspiri is a new swimwear brand launching in the U.S. this summer and are based right here in Miami. Their first-ever swim and beach collection for Summer 2022 will feature colorful florals, bright solids and animal prints that reflect many of the tropical and oceanside colors reminiscent of Santorini and nearby islands.

“Elspiri celebrates individuality and diversity with adjustability and attention to detail to let your body tell your story,” said Juanita Carmet, Swim & Resortwear Designer for Elspiri. “Our feminine styles are designed to make you feel empowered and confident in your own skin.”

The body-positive swimsuits and beachwear evoke wanderlust towards the sea through their vibrant, coastal styles and versatile designs made for every body. The collection includes adjustable and supportive bikini tops with removable bra cups that come in four styles and seven different colors. Styles include:

  • Cora - a lace front bralette with a supportive band in tones such as plumbago and fantasy floral
  • Athena - an over the shoulder top with tie back, available in a painted animal print and bougainvillea pink
  • Lyra - a versatile cross back bralette available in white, sorbet, bougainvillea and painted animal colors
  • Ophelia - a triangle over the shoulder top, available in Greek blue and fantasy floral hues.

Elspiri’s bikini bottoms are available in three different styles and a range of colors, including: Thea, a high leg V-cut bottom available in bougainvillea, printed animal and fantasy floral colors; Maya, a high-waisted, high leg bottom available in plumbago and bougainvillea; and Zoe, a drawstring tie-side triangle bottom in sorbet, printed animal, Greek blue, and floral colors.

All bikini tops and bottoms are available in sizes small to extra-large, and can be mixed and matched. Bikini tops start at $79 and bikini bottoms start at $77.

For a little more coverage, Elspiri created two styles of one-piece swimsuits, including Chloe, a lace front piece with a deep V-cut back and adjustable straps, available in sorbet, bougainvillea, and painted animal tones. The Alexandra, is a cut-out, keyhole one piece with adjustable tie back strings and comes available in Greek blue and fantasy floral colors. One-piece swimsuits start at $165 for solid colors and $172 for prints.

In addition to swimwear, Elspiri is launching beachwear that complements its swimsuits or can be worn on their own as casual resort wear. From solid colored shirt dresses for a classic look, to sexy off-the-shoulder crop tops, the beach attire collection has something for everyone.

When deciding on the collection’s materials to incorporate into the design, Carmet stated that “the brand strived to use quality fabrics from top mills in the industry to provide customers with the most value for their money. The human skin is the largest organ; we wanted to make sure we dressed it in premium fabrics.”

Elspiri is made with quick-dry, anti-pilling, and wrinkle-free premium Italian fabrics that maintain comfort, colorfastness, and elasticity. The beachwear collection is made with 100% Brazilian cotton and 100% viscose, giving each piece a linen appearance that is breathable, lightweight, soft and drapey. All fabrics used are OEKO-TEX® and Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) certified.

The inaugural event, Benefit for Bradley, will raise funds for Nicklaus Children’s Hospital on Saturday, April 30, and Sunday, May 1.

For Jose Migenis, Florida Regional Director for YouFit Gyms, Nicklaus Children's Hospital plays an important role. His son Bradley, who turned 3 on April 7, has been in the care of a team of specialists at the hospital since birth. Bradley was diagnosed with epilepsy, cortical vision impairment and cerebral palsy, conditions that affect his developmental abilities.

“It’s hard to put into words the immense amount of gratitude that my family and I have for Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and YouFit Gyms,” says Migenis. “During the most critical time, the team at Nicklaus, provided our family with exceptional care and compassion.  As we continue through Bradley’s journey, we feel supported as we navigate the best options to provide Bradley with the best quality of life; and YouFit for their unconditional support and willingness to launch YouFit Lifts with their first event Benefit For Bradley, that will help so many other families in the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital community.”

Patrons who make a $15 donation will be entered to win a year membership as well as receive a 2-day pass to their YouFit Gyms location to participate in the Benefit For Bradley event. There will also be small bites to keep guests fueled pre- and post- workout.  Migenis along with his wife, Vilma, and of course, Bradley, will be making appearances at several Miami YouFit locations throughout the weekend.

YouFit will also launch Burpees for Bradley, a 39-burpee challenge. This number signifies the longest number of days in which Bradley has been seizure-free in the past year.  Burpees for Bradley will take place at all locations as well as on social media @YouFit, allowing anyone, anywhere to participate. Those participating in Burpees for Bradley via social media, can make a donation and are encouraged to tag #burpeesforbradley.

“We are so grateful for YouFit’s support of the children and families in our community – families like Bradley’s who are committed to seeking the best possible medical care and a brighter future for their children,” says Matthew A. Love, President and CEO of Nicklaus Children’s Health System. “Bradley is one of close to half a million patients who receive care at Nicklaus Children’s each year. This type of community support propels us forward in our vision of creating a healthy future for every child.”

All proceeds raised from Benefit from Bradley will be donated to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Foundation.

lululemon 'Like New' Resale Program Expanding to South Florida Beginning on Earth Day

lululemon is taking their trade-in and resale program Like New nationwide. Starting on Earth Day, April 22, lululemon Like New will be available to all guests across the U.S., including right here in South Florida.

Through the program, lululemon guests can trade in pre-loved lululemon clothing in exchange for an e-gift card and shop resale products online at likenew.lululemon.com. If everyone bought one item used instead of new this year, it would save the equivalent of 18,700 dump trucks full of waste, the water of 1.25 billion showers, and the carbon equivalent to planting 66 million trees, according to a ThredUp Report.

"We are excited to expand lululemon Like New, our trade-in and resale program, to all guests across the U.S. beginning April 22," said Calvin McDonald, lululemon CEO. "Our successful two-state pilot in 2021 has led to this moment, as we continue to advance our Impact Agenda commitment to make 100% of our products with sustainable materials and end-of-use solutions by 2030."

lululemon’s Impact Agenda is a multi-year strategy to create an equitable, sustainable future, with a central vision to minimize environmental impact, contribute to a healthier world, and generate long-term value. 100% of lululemon Like New profits will be reinvested into sustainability initiatives.

Ready to trade in your gear? Bring good condition items to your local lululemon store, including Aventura Mall, Brickell City Centre, Lincoln Road, and Merrick Park. After reviewing your gear, you will receive an e-gift card for eligible items and you can take home items that are not accepted. The e-gift cards can be redeemed online and at the store. Gear ranges from a $5 credit for tops to a $25 credit for outerwear.

New Bunda Studio in Miami, Florida

Build a Bigger, Better, Butt at Bünda in Coral Gables

Bünda, pronounced BOON-DUH, is Portuguese slang for "butt" and, you guessed it, their goal is to get you a better butt. Check out this studio in Coral Gables for a tough lower body workout that benefits your entire body.

The workout:

Every Bünda class is 50 minutes and consists of 3 rounds. Each round is half StairMaster and half resistance and strength training. Fun fact: Bünda is the world’s first group fitness studio to incorporate the Stairmaster! At Bünda, they believe that training the lower body often is the key to a total body change.

You should also know:

Bünda workout programs are backed by science and years of research. Studies have shown that frequent glute training burns more fat. Workouts are based on form and progressions, not intervals and intensity.

Their motto is "Better Butt, Better Body, Backed By Science."

What makes Bünda unique?

"BÜNDA workout programs are backed by science and years of research," said Katie Lunger, co-founder and co-creator of Bünda. "Studies have shown that frequent glute training burns more fat. We base our workout on form and progressions, not intervals and intensity. On the floor we use traditional resistance training methods and the stair master program focuses on maximum fat utilization instead of high intensity intervals which burn mostly sugar."

What do members like best?

Here are a few of their reviews:

  • "Love the combo of Stairmaster and weight training. I like that the focus is heavier weights because I know this makes more of a difference! Highly recommend!"
  • "Love that they focus on your form. Quality over quantity!"
  • "I really like their Classes. The instructors are excellent about correcting form and suggesting modifications for injuries."
  • "Amazing concept! Felt challenging but in a great way! Big on form over everything! Even on the stair master :)"
  • "Super challenging class but really rewarding. Focused on personal best and reps, not a certain time."
  • "Was my first time trying out this class and I loved it! Coach is very motivational and provides a lot of great insight regarding nutrition, form, etc. Really recommend it!"

The extras:

Bünda has showers and validates 75 minutes of parking for $1. They have Year Of Ours workout apparel for sale, as well as their own Bünda merch. You can even find their own equipment for class designed for the Bünda Patented floor stations.

How to join in:

Your first class at Bünda is free. They also have a new client special where you can get 3 classes for $30. After that, drop in classes are $30. Bünda also offers an unlimited monthly membership called The Bünda Journey for $199. Class packages are also available with a one year expiration.

Miami Skyline

Miami Ranked as Most Active City in America

Each year, Mindbody ranks the Healthiest Cities in America, and being active is an important part of that. For 2022, Miami took the number one spot for setting fitness goals and being most active.

Mindbody Online had this to say about the Magic City:

Miami tops the list with 83% of its residents who work out at least once a week. The city also has the highest percentage of people (aged 18-65) who work out three times a week or more. On top of that, Miami residents spend the most on their fitness, investing, on average, about twice as much as the average American.
And even if Miamians have a particularly busy workday, they aren’t likely to skip their workouts—they’re huge fans of exercising in the evening.

The rest of the top ten rankings are:

  1. San Francisco
  2. Atlanta
  3. Washington, DC
  4. Austin
  5. San Diego
  6. Seattle
  7. Long Beach
  8. Los Angeles
  9. Boston

CinderFit blocks in different weights from Miami-based company CinderFit

Miami-Based CinderFit Goes Live with Website and Pre-Orders

CinderFit, a gym in a block, officially went live with their website last week, ahead of their full launch later this spring. This Miami-based company is ready to takeover the local fitness scene.

During the COVID-19 quarantine, Takeo Ishii and Felipe Azenha were determined to maintain their exercise routine even though gyms had closed and home fitness equipment was sold out. Using some cinder blocks they had in their backyard, they discovered all the different ways the blocks could be incorporated into workouts and CinderFit was born.

Inspired by those cinder blocks, CinderFit's patent-pending design allows fitness enthusiasts to do 10x more exercises than a dumbbell or kettlebell, providing unrivaled total body strength and cardio training. The blocks range from 15 pounds up to 55 pounds and have different resistance band attachments.

Right now pre-orders can be placed directly through the website for delivery mid-April. Local orders can be picked up right here in Miami to eliminate shipping charges. There is also an exercise library with over 150 exercises and a 20-day CinderFit challenge is coming soon.

Sweat Studio is Bringing The Heat at Their New Location in North Miami

If you are a fan of heated classes, chances are you have been to Sweat Studio. A staple in North Miami for years, the studio just relocated to a new space at 15400 Biscayne Boulevard.

Founded by Rikki Heiken, Sweat Studio is home to Miami's hottest workout. With heat as the foundation for every class, the workout features concepts to work the entire body and uses intervals of low-impact, high-intensity, and burning cardio with muscle sculpting techniques to strengthen and tone. The element of a heated studio ensures a good sweat to maximize your calorie burn while helping to detox the body.

The result is a fun, challenging-yet-safe, body-positive space driven by great music and positive energy. Sweat Studio offers four core class concepts designed to complement each other for a total fitness experience.

  • Ultimate Sweat - This class is what Sweat Studio is known for. It consists of low-impact, high-intensity movements that will get your heart rate moving. Prepare to feel the burn in all the right places with this intense version of cardio pilates.
  • Resistance Sweat - Using only resistance bands, this full-body class will fatigue your muscles. Challenge your core, lower and upper body using body weight and resistance bands.
  • Weighted Sweat - A high-intensity workout with low-impact movements, it is designed to challenge you from start to finish using hand weights and ankle weights. Expect cardio bursts and total muscular sculpting for a sweat that burns.
  • Rhythm Sweat - Move, dance, and sweat to the beat with this high-energy class designed to spike your heart rate through dance-inspired movements. Sequences taught by a classically trained dancer incorporate head-to-toe range of motion and music that’ll keep your energy all the way up.

Choose a workout best-suited to your interests and abilities, while also being encouraged to step out of the box and try something new. All classes are paired with motivating instructors and high energy music to keep you going.

Bring a mat, towel, and grip socks, and check out a class at Sweat Studio. You can also experience it digitally by streaming their video on demand on MINDBODY. For more information, head to sweatstudiomiami.com or find them on Instagram at @sweatstudio_miami.

Kit from Mixology Mixer, a company based in Miami, with alcohol and mixers

Spotlight on Women-Owned Company, Mixology Mixer

In honor of Women's History Month, we are celebrating some of the amazing women right here in Miami. Let us introduce you to Loni Paige and Mixology Mixer!

Many used quarantine cocktail-ing as a coping mechanism to save them during the pandemic and that was the inspiration behind Mixology Mixer.  Founder Loni Paige created a company to enable everyone to become their own at-home mixologist thanks to curated kits featuring a spirit and the necessary mixers, garnishes, and bar tools, to create unique liquid libations with the help of expert mixologists through a virtual cocktail making class.

Paige had almost two decades of experience working with celebrity events and spirit industries in South Florida when the pandemic started and quickly pivoted with Mixology Mixer. She capitalized on her experience in social and corporate events, marketing, and spirit promotions gained through her consulting business and embarked on a mission to help save the industry.

Mixology Mixer features themed virtual cocktail classes such as “Fireside,” where people learned to make three winter cocktails including Spiked Hot Cocoa, Café Calido, and a Coquito.  The “Talk Derby to Me” kit features Kentucky Derby themed cocktails including Mint Julep, Brown Derby, and Kentucky Sweet Tea.  Companies are able to choose their experience and schedule a date and time online. Once booked, Mixology Mixer sends the organizer a customized invite that can be shared with colleagues, staff members and guests.

The program includes a virtual link to meet the host mixologist who discusses the featured spirit, ingredients, and tips for making expertly crafted cocktails at home. There is also a step-by-step tutorial on how to create the cocktail followed by a question and answer session with the bartender.   Due to overwhelming success, Paige soon incorporated culinary experiences into Mixology Mixer, such as vegan sweet potato donuts, pizza making, and intro to risotto, where people could learn to cook.   She also launched activations that paired activities with alcohol such as paint and sip, partnered with Dr. Smood on a pour over coffee class, and even created a virtual bachelorette party package.

Paige has now taken Mixology Mixer direct to consumers with the launch of Club Mix.  This subscription-based club enables people to mix like a pro from the comfort of their own home. Every month they receive a new cocktail kit with a different theme.  Customers can also reorder the alcohol, mixers and gourmet syrups, which Paige creates in-house, through Mixology Mixer’s partnership with Primo liquors.

One of the newest options is Skinny Mix, which are healthier cocktails made with low calorie, healthy mixers, in partnership with Jackie Figueiredo, certified nutrition and wellness coach. Figueiredo will guide you on how to live a healthy lifestyle while having fun too.

With the success of Mixology Mixer, Paige has been able to positively impact the hospitality community by creating jobs and an additional revenue stream for bartenders, chefs and caterers. In addition, as people start to gather for events again, Mixology Mixer are hitting the scene with their "liquid catering" pop-up bars.

Kate Durand does yoga at the YO BK studio in Wynwood, Miami

Spotlight on Kate Durand, Founder and Owner of YO BK in Wynwood

In honor of Women's History Month, we are celebrating some of the amazing women right here in Miami. Let us introduce you to Kate Durand!

Durand is the founder and owner of YO BK, a new-to-Miami yoga studio with two additional locations in New York. Located at Oasis in Wynwood, the new studio offers Inferno Hot Pilates (HIIT), Traditional Hot Yoga (Bikram), Power Yoga, and Yin Yoga classes.

During college, Durand discovered her love of hot yoga, biking 5 miles every day to the studio. That was when she realized her dream to teach yoga and have her own studio.

"I was inspired by my amazing mentor, Lisa Ingle, who owns three studios in San Antonio, Texas. I started practicing with her during my first semester of college and knew right away I wanted to teach and one day own a studio," said Durand.

Even once she graduated and moved to Beijing and then Bangkok to be a kindergarten teacher, she always made sure there was a yoga studio nearby. When she moved back to the States in 2011, she became a yoga teacher and opened her first studio in 2015 in Brooklyn.

Durand said, "Upon becoming a yoga teacher, Lisa guided me towards studio ownership and helped me narrow my real estate search down to Brooklyn and Miami, where our studios now live! Her guidance as a multi-tasking mother and business owner showed and continue to show me the way."

By 2018, she was able to open her second Brooklyn location. With a schedule of sold out classes, things were going great... until the pandemic.

"A big part of my success came from the ability to pivot - our NYC studios moved to online classes the DAY after the city shut down," said Durand. "We quickly moved to outdoor classes and finally back in-studio. As much of our competition closed, we continued looking for what was possible and are even stronger now because of it."

It was shortly after the pandemic that Durand had the opportunity to open her third location right here in Miami. She says there is never the "right time" to open a business.

"The only answer is to work hard, ask for help and put one foot in front of the other. Part of standing in our power as female entrepreneurs is asking for what's needed. Sometimes my tendency to want people to like me gets in the way, and I'm working to balance empathy with forging forward each day!"

"I love wearing many hats as a business owner. I'm a mom and a wife, so my time at the studios is even more special, knowing that it supports my family and I am showing my 10 year old son that women can be loving, focused and brave," said Durand. "At the studios, I teach, market, support our team and sometimes plunge toilets. I love that each day is different and brings in a wide variety of people."

For the full YO BK class schedule, head to yo-bk.com/miami. Their opening special of 2 weeks for $27 has been extended until March 15th.
