“Burn” at Pilates One is designed to be a high intensity, high calorie burning 30 minute cardio class.
If you follow Lebron James on Instagram, then you’ve probably seen him call the VersaClimber his “girlfriend.” And after trying Pilates One’s newest class “Burn”, I totally get the love that LBJ has for this machine. “Burn” is designed to be a high intensity, high calorie burning 30 minute cardio class. The great thing about the VersaClimber is that it isn’t just your traditional cardio. The machine simulates the movements of climbing and works out your entire body, building strength in your upper body, lower body, back and core for a fully rounded work out.https://www.instagram.com/p/BHm1pkeh299/?taken-by=kingjames&hl=enI took class with Dani Ohayon. We started class with a few minutes of mat Pilates to warm up and then hopped on to the VersaClimbers for our choreographed cardio. Strides alternated from short, quick sprints to long, reaching strides - working I different areas of our bodies, all while keeping our cores engaged. We also alternated our grips, with underhanded grips working out our biceps and overhanded grips working out our triceps, shoulders and backs. We then lowered into squats to make sure that we rounded off our workouts by targeting our lower bodies. The VersaClimber also allows you to adjust the resistance so that you can change the intensity of your workout.Once our workout on the VersaClimber was complete, Dani led us in a cool down on the Pilates Reformers, focusing on stretching the muscles we'd just put to work. The class is short, but definitely sweet. And by sweet I mean effective. This is a class that you come to burn off the pounds.Pilates One is located at 2640 SW 28 Lane in Coconut Grove. Special pricing is available for new students and class packages and unlimited monthly memberships are available. For more information, visit www.pilatesone.com.

International Fitness and Lifestyle Influencer, Lynsee Hee Kyeong, shares tips on how to stay healthy during the busiest time of year.
Holiday season is right around the corner, which means temptation is creeping along too. Lynsee Hee Kyeong, an International Fitness and Lifestyle Influencer, motivates and inspires women to create positive and healthy lives. Lynsee showcases healthy recipes, workout routines, motivational advice, and tips for staying fit, on her YouTube channel. We reached out for some tips on how to stay healthy during the busiest time of year.
Writing down your workouts for the week, including exact times and days, will help hold you accountable for achieving your fitness goals during the holiday season. Sometimes we tend to get so caught up in our busy schedules or parties, that we forget to take time to care for our bodies.
Personally, exercising early in the morning helps set the tone for my day. It also allows you to get your body moving, and endorphins released. Therefore, working out in the morning triggers a positive feeling in the body which gives you the energy you need to conquer anything. (Read: 5 Tips to Switch to a Morning Workout Routine)
Rather than bringing high-fat or calorie-packed dishes to those holidays parties, opt for healthy options. It’s also quite simple to create delicious dishes with healthy ingredients. For example, energy balls, turkey bacon wrapped dates, grilled chicken skewers with a peanut sauce, etc. You can easily swap coconut oil in place of butter, stevia for sugar, almond flour for white flour, or almond milk for dairy milk.
Despite every human’s desire to indulge in all of the holiday treats or cocktails in life, it can also be a diet killer. If you are going to indulge, have that moment but don’t overindulge. Champagne is an 80-calorie option if you are going to have a glass or two at a party.
Dehydration can increase cravings, so make sure you’re drinking plenty of water during the holidays. Your body needs to consume half of its body weight in ounces each day. For example, if you weigh 125 pounds, drink at least 62.5 ounces each day.
Everything is better with friends! It can be hard to stay on track during the holidays, so develop an accountability group or recruit a friend to join you for your workouts. Join a group fitness class, sign up for a 5K, or host a workout session that includes a little holiday party afterwards (with healthy treats and drinks). Fitness doesn’t have to be dreadful. Make it fun, and enjoy yourself. (Try these classes: 8 Miami Fitness Classes You Can Try For Free)
Make it a point to continually track your progress during the holidays, so you can decipher whether or not you are closer to your fitness goals. Tracking your body weight, measurements, and gains/losses will help you maintain focus and stay motivated. I like to record progress every week for solidity.
Don’t deprive yourself just because you ate that slice of cheesecake at your company’s holiday party, or had 12 cookies at your friend’s Secret Santa gathering. If you indulged the night before, wake up with a new mindset. Consume nutrient-dense meals, incorporating lean proteins, plenty of greens, and healthy fats. Don’t stress or overthink it.
Consistency is important not only during the holiday season, but every day. It’s a major key to success, so make sure you stick to your plan and commit yourself fully to achieving those goals.
Once a week, take a HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) class or hit up your local boxing gym to get your body moving actively. These type of workouts will not only break up the monotony of working out, but they will allow your fitness level to excel and set you up for an incredible beginning of the new year.Make sure to follow Lynsee Hee Kyeong on Instagram, YouTube and visit her site: www.stylebylynsee.com

If you have time for any form of fitness in your day, it should be stretching. Recovery days are so important to allow the body to properly repair itself.
Recovery days are so important to allow the body to properly repair itself. If you keep breaking your muscles down with intense exercise without proper recovery, the chances of injury and muscular imbalances becomes much higher. If you have time for any form of fitness in your day, it should be stretching. As Americans we spend more time crouching down to look at our phone and computer screens than we do being physically active. So here are 5 reasons to wake up and stretch.
Basically you are giving your hips, knees, shoulders and ankles a longer shelf life.
Think of your muscles like a piece of chewing gum; the more you massage it the more flexible it becomes. If you really work on your flexibility, you also decrease your risk of injury during explosive or more dynamic forms of exercise. If your favorite type of exercise is playing a sport, flexibility is key to engaging without injury.
The time spent on our phones, laptops, etc., increases the strain in our neck and upper back or thoracic spine. Your grandma told you to practice good posture, and she is right! Try getting into a crab position right now by laying on your back, knees up, feet planted hip-distance apart, hands planted with fingers turned back at 6 0’clock. Lift your hips up, press through the heels of your hands, open the chest and release the head back and say Ahhhhhh. Hold for about 10 seconds and lower. Repeat about 5 times for some serious chest, hip and shoulder opening.
Plain and simple; a well stretched body holds less tension thus making you feel less stressed and more relaxed. Get into the habit of stretching fist thing in the morning and right before bed.
Lower back pain is probably the most common type of pain in anyone 30+, am I right? By increasing flexibility in the major muscle groups of the legs (quadriceps, hip flexors, hamstrings and glutes) that are attached to the lumbo-pelvic region (low back/pelvis) helps to relieve stress on lower back.*** Bonus: Increased flexibility makes sexy time more fun If the above five reasons weren’t enough then this one should be! Enjoy the increased blood flow to your nether region and you and your partner may be able to master parts of the Kama Sutra you never thought possible.

The Cage Boxing & BootCamp in Brickell offers high intensity boxing, kickboxing, and boot camp classes that use a variety of techniques.
Sometimes we cheat...on our diets. It happens. If you’re like me, maybe you had a sub with the works on white bread (not scooped) for lunch instead of that grilled chicken and broccoli you brought with you to work. Now you feel guilty and you’re looking for a high intensity work out to “even things out” and pretend like that cheat meal never happened. That was me last Wednesday, so I decided to take a boxing class at The Cage Boxing & BootCamp in Brickell.Located on the mezzanine level at 1060 Brickell Avenue, The Cage Boxing & BootCamp offers high intensity boxing, kickboxing, and boot camp classes that use a variety of techniques including Muay Thai, Karate, Krav Maga and plyometrics. Every class provides a full body work out and personal training sessions are also available. Classes are led by instructors with backgrounds ranging from boxing professionals to professional MMA fighters. My class was taught by Gail Gensler, who's been teaching boxing classes for 30 years. The class was welcoming to all levels. Gail was there to make sure every student, new and experienced, had the proper technique while executing each boxing combination. The workout started with a warm-up that consisted of running laps around the room, lateral shuffles and sprints up and down the stairs. Following the warm-up, we went straight into our boxing combinations. Each combination targeted several muscles groups, including upper body, core and lower body, so that by the end of class we’d gotten a full body work out. It was intense and empowering and by the end of that class, not only did I feel like a total bad-ass – I knew that sub had been worked off!The Cage offers complimentary valet, wraps and gloves. Showers are also available. When visiting The Cage, make sure to enter through the lobby of 1060 Brickell and then either take the stairs or the elevators to the mezzanine floor, where you’ll find the studio.Classes are available Monday – Saturday and your first class is free. The Cage offers competitive memberships and individual class rates. You can also find them on Class Pass. From now until October 15th, Stay Fit 305 readers will receive 15% off new memberships. Just mention this article and promo code THECAGE305. Purchase memberships in person at The Cage Boxing & BootCamp in Brickell. For more information on memberships and class schedules, visit www.thecageboxingclub.com or call (305) 395-8676.
This week, get to know Miami Pilates Instructor, Amanda Christodoulou.
Are you always on the lookout for new gyms, studios and trainers to workout with? Well, so are we. That’s the foundation of Stay Fit 305 after all – to be your guide to the best South Florida trainers, gyms, studios, health foods and fitness events. We love featuring new trainers. These are the individuals pushing you to your limits when you want to give up, and who you thank when you’ve reached your goal. This week, get to know Miami Pilates Instructor, Amanda Christodoulou.1.) What attracted you most to Pilates?Balance. It’s a total body, dynamic workout, and there are so many variations that I can do it almost every day. I'm also really fascinated with anatomy and the body, and Pilates truly teaches me about my own body as well as my clients'.2.) How would you describe your private classes?Personally tailored to you. I dedicate time before each private lesson to create a session specific to your body & goals. You’ll never know your workout before you come into my lesson, and you’ll never do the same sequence twice. I make sure to progress clients with each session and love teaching them new tricks.
3.) What types of equipment do you use in your private lessons?I use a mix of equipment: Reformer, Wunda chair, mat, jumpboard and strength training props. I also make sure to teach my students about the body during their workout, so they can understand what a Pilates Body is!4.) What’s one tip you’d recommend to anyone just getting into the Pilates instructor game?Don’t over commit. Ask yourself if you’re able to give 100% of yourself to a client for each session.
5.) What keeps you motivated as an instructor?Keeping up with my client’s needs. I was getting asked a lot of nutritional questions in my private lessons, so I'm working on becoming a certified health coach for nutrition. Once I finish that, I’ll pick something else up!6.) What does your fitness routine look like?My goal is to try to do some kind of workout every day, that way if I miss a day due to scheduling I don't feel so bad. I aim to do Pilates as much as possible, about 3-4 times a week. I also love boxing, dance, cardio and strength training.
7.) Besides Pilates, what’s one thing you’re passionate about?Besides my Boxer, Micky, I’d say Miami. It’s such a full, and colorful city to live in. It’s very fitness-focused and has a lot to offer the wellness community. I make a conscience effort to go beyond just workout posts, to capture the fun-side of life in Miami on my Instagram, @pilates_body.8.) What does a typical day for you look like?No matter what time my first session starts I give myself an hour of alone time to have coffee, do my session planning & prepare for my day. Once my sessions begin I am back to back to back! I try to squeeze in a training for myself if I get any breaks. For lunch, I almost always bring home-cooked leftovers I made the night before. Then it’s back to private sessions until about 6:30. If I’m teaching at Anatomy at 1220, I’ll hit the infrared sauna which heats you up from the inside out to burn toxins – it’s great for quick detoxing. Then I go home, walk my dog, and make dinner.
9.) What’s your number one fitness tip?Everything in moderation, including moderation. It’s all about balance.10.) Where and when do you teach?I teach private lessons at my clients’ homes or at Anatomy based on their schedules. I also teach a group Pilates Abs + Stretch class at Anatomy twice a week, and I teach at SoBe Pilates twice a week.

More and more athletes are turning to Yoga and Pilates as a way to recover and prevent injuries.
More and more athletes are turning to Yoga and Pilates as a way to recover and prevent injuries. With the NFL season just around the corner, we reached out to Yoga for Athletes instructor Lizzett Chiappy Eskert who is the lead yoga instructor for multiple University of Miami sports team including: Football, Women and Men's Track & Field, Women's Tennis, and Women's Soccer, to see how Yoga can improve performance for athletes.
Here are nine Yoga poses Lizzett recommends her athletes practice.
1. Downward Facing Dog
How: Hands/arms shoulder width apart, hands press down into ground, feet/legs hip distance apart, shift weight back towards legs and draw heels down towards the ground, crown of head dropped towards ground, eye gaze to back center edge of mat, press chest towards thighs.
What's stretched: the spine and back muscles, shoulders, hamstrings, calves and achilles tendon.
Why Important: Help relieve back pain which usually begins with tight hamstrings which is also stretched here. It also helps improve the strength and mobility of the shoulders.
2. Forward Fold/Ragdoll
How: Feet hip distance apart (about two fists) drop crown of head to the ground, slight bend in knees, grab opposite elbows with hands, weight shifted forward so that hips stack over ankles.
What's stretched: hamstrings, calves, hips, lower back,
Why Important: Opens up and releases the entire back side of the body, for more fluidity and ease of movement.
3. Lizard Lunge
How: from downward facing dog, step your left foot to the outside of your left hand, keep your right leg straight and active, if you want to go deeper, lower both forearms onto the floor. If you need to modify, drop back knee to the ground. Repeat to the other side.
What's stretched: Opens the hips, hip flexors, and groins of the straight leg, and stretches the hamstring of the bent leg.
Why Important: To increase functionality and mobility of the hips. Limber hips can ease tightness in the lower back.
4. Galaxy Pose
How: from Lizard Lunge, drop back knee down to the ground, walk your front foot out towards the side that it's on, take hand closest to front leg and place on inner thigh/adductors of front leg and press open as you press both hips forward, can stay there or reach back and grab foot of back leg.
What's stretched: For back leg, Hips and Hip Flexors are released, if holding foot with hand, quadricep is stretched, for front leg, groin is stretched. If holding foot, shoulder opener for arm reaching back.
Why Important: Works on rotation of the spine while releasing hips. Increases mobility and flexibility in the hips and spine.
5. Low Lunge
How: From downward facing dog, step right forward in between your hands, drop your back knee down ,engage core and lift chest up as reach arms over head towards to sky, press both hips forward and open up chest, simultaneously lean back.

Why Important: Increase mobility and flexibility in hips, opens up pectoral muscles and the front side of the body. In addition, can help improve balance.
6. Cobra
How: Lay face down on your stomach, place both hands underneath shoulder heads with fingers pointing forward, engage core and press up into back extension, bring a slight bend in elbows and drop shoulders down into spine away from ears, leave legs on the ground, release glutes
What's stretched: the chest muscles, shoulders, and abdomen
Why Important: Helps strengthen the spine and improve posture. It also opens up the lunges for better breathe consumption, and also opens the front side of the body.
7. Reclining Pigeon/Figure 4 Stretch
How: Lay face up on your back, bend both knees with both feet flat on ground, cross your right ankle over your left thigh, place both hands behind your left thing and pull in towards your chest, if you want to go deeper, use right hand to press right knee away as pull left thigh in.
What's stretched: The hips and the IT Band. Opens lower back as well.
Why Important: The IT band is connected to the knee and the hip, when tight it can affect the function and mobility of the pelvis, lower back, and knee.
8. Toes Pose with Shoulder Opener
How: Kneel and sit back towards heels, Tuck toes under so that your toe ball mounds are pressing into the ground, if this bothers knees, roll up a towel and place horizontal behind knee creases, interlace hands behind back and squeeze shoulder blades together and work to straighten arms, if this is too much can grab a towel in between hands behind back, walk hands in towards each other as much as possible.
What's stretched: the bottom of the feet and toes, front of shoulders and chest
Why Important: Helps prevent plantar fasciitis, which is a common injury amongst football players. It also helps to strengthen ankles.
9. Supine twist

This week, Miami-Dade Mayor, Carlos A. Gimenez, Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department and Friends of The Underline opened "Brickell Backyard," a pop-up fitness area next to the Brickell Metrorail location. Brickell Backyard is one of the first pieces of The Underline project. The Underline, is a restoration project, that will transform the ten-mile stretch of land underneath the Miami Metrorail, into a linear park, urban trail and living art destination, similar to New York's High Line.
The Brickell Backyard fitness pop-up area is open to the public, and features cleverly designed fitness equipment, that sets the stage for the future, “Brickell Underline Park.” Once completed, “Brickell Underline Park” will feature picnic areas, park benches, native vegetation, nature-inspired playground, dog park, basketball court and art installations.
Future mix-use parks are also planned for other segments of The Underline, as well as two separate trails, one for pedestrians and the other for bicyclists. The Underline project is one of Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez’ priorities and is aimed at encouraging Miami-Dade residents to walk, bike or ride transit as an alternative to driving.
The Underline will serve as an enhanced mobility corridor, designed to better connect communities, improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety, and promote a healthier lifestyle with accessible green spaces and park amenities for exercise and relaxation. The project is the result of a public/ private collaboration between Miami-Dade Parks, Miami-Dade Transportation and Public Works and Friends of The Underline. It is also a part of the county’s Masterplan Greenway network that consists of 500 miles of trails and connected public spaces.
If you’ve ever thought about making the change but can't seem to get out of bed, use these 5 tips to switch to a morning workout routine.
I never used to be a morning person. I didn’t wake up early to workout. But, a few years ago I discovered an am/pm workout that consisted of cardio in the morning and weightlifting at night. It was the first time I worked out before work and it did wonders for me. After a few weeks, I was hooked. Now most of my workouts take place in the morning and leave me feeling energized and ready to take on the day. If you’ve ever thought about making the change but can't seem to get out of bed, use these 5 tips to switch to a morning workout routine. They worked for me and hopefully will work for you, too!1. Lay Out Your Clothes the Night BeforeHow does that saying go? “Failing to Prepare is Preparing to Fail?” Set your clothes out the night before. Pick an outfit that makes you feel good. If you’re excited about wearing something, you’re more likely to get up and wear it. Buying cute workout clothes never hurt anyone, either. Ladies- I realize this one may be a bit biased towards you, but fellas, you know you want to show off your guns in that tank.2. Set Out Your Blender Bottle / Breakfast the Night BeforeEvery night, I measure out my 20 grams of carbs (oatmeal) per my macros from my nutritionist. I also set out a Blender Bottle with my amino/BCAA powder mix to be consumed during my workout. It’s easy to just grab and go. Plus, the more you do the night before, the less you have to do in the morning. You also won’t forget to fuel up to make the most out of your workout. #gainz3. Give Your Alarm a Fun, Motivating Name (and Set More Than One)Is it easy to get up at 5:15am to get to a CrossFit class at 6am? No, it’s not. If it was, everyone would do it. But it’s a little easier when you 1). set 2 alarms and 2). give those alarms fun, motivating names so that when they go off and your sleepy eyes see your phone’s home screen, you’ll read something like “Get That Revenge Body, Gurl!” (ok, that’s what mine says). I set my first alarm for 5:15am, and the second for 5:30am, knowing that’s when I really need to get up to make my class (thankfully for me, my box is around the corner).4. Change Your Home Screen Picture to One that Depicts Your “Goals”Whenever I find myself needing a little extra motivation, I change my home screen image to a picture of my ideal body goal. If I see that in the morning, it pushes me to swing my legs out of bed, plant my feet on the floor and GET UP. Every day I get out of bed and work out, I’m one step closer. Remember, you’re the one in charge of your destiny. Ask yourself, how bad do you want it?5. Find Your Tribe or Your VibeOnce you find what you love to do in terms of physical activity, you’ll WANT to spend time doing that. I knew I found it when I found CrossFit. Now I think of those other 6am-ers in there with me as my tribe. We’re in this together, sweating it out at 6am, pushing each other and motivating each other to be better. So find your tribe! Or find your vibe- maybe you’re not into a particular studio or gym or box, but prefer to do your own thing. That’s your vibe, it gives you good energy. Find it and keep it. Use it to keep going when you want to stop. Remember how good it makes you feel.Bonus Tip: Recognize That You Have the Right to Start Your Day the Best Way Possible I know the article is on 5 tips to switch to a morning workout routine, but I had to throw an extra one in there. Regardless of the time you work out, you know once you’re done it’s the best feeling in the world. You just CRUSHED your workout, you’re full of adrenaline and endorphins that make you feel amazing. Why wouldn’t you want to START your day that way? I know that I can’t control what’s going to happen in my day. Maybe something will go wrong at work, maybe I have a personal issue. The day can go south quickly, we all know it. But one thing you CAN control is how you start your day. When I start every day with a workout, I walk out of the box or gym feeling awesome and ready to take on what the day brings. In that moment, nothing is bringing me down. There is no better feeling than that.Early bird gets the worm, y’all.
